Photomaton

Ce livre, qui célèbre le centenaire du Photomaton, fait suite à un premier volume paru en 2011, et propose une iconographie entièrement renouvelée ainsi qu’un rappel historique plus conséquent. Il offre surtout un inventaire inédit de plus de soixante-dix artistes qui ont considéré ou qui considèrent encore que le Photomaton, numérique ou argentique, est un champ d’expérimentation et de création infini. Des surréalistes à Pierre & Gilles, d’Antonio Lopez à JR… Enfin, il met en valeur celles et ceux qui démontrent, s’il en était besoin, qu’à l’heure du selfie et des filtres Snapchat, la photographie sans photographe et l’autoportrait « non conforme » restent une expérience intime et unique !

This book, which celebrates the centenary of the Photomaton, follows on from a first volume published in 2011 and offers a fully revised selection of images as well as a more substantial historical overview. Above all, it provides an unprecedented survey of more than seventy artists who have considered or still consider the Photomaton, whether digital or analogue, an endless field for experimentation and creation. From the Surrealists to Pierre & Gilles, from Antonio Lopez to JR… Finally, it highlights those who demonstrate, if proof were needed, that in the age of the selfie and Snapchat filters, photography without a photographer and the “non-conforming” self-portrait remain an intimate and unique experience.
